How long have you been an alumni member?
I have been as alumni member for the last 7 years. I joined the Alumni Association straight out of High School.
What SkillsUSA activities did you participate in in High School?
When I was in High School, I never participated in the competitions within my trade of Culinary Arts. I instead, ran for State Office. During the April 2012 State Leadership & Skills Conference, I was named a State Officer Elect. During Officer Training that summer, I was elected to serve in the role of State Parliamentarian for the 2012-2013 academic year.
What is your favorite thing about the alumni?
One of my favorite parts about being a member of the Alumni Association is the ability to give back to an organization that gave so much to me. When I was a student member, the Alumni were some of the first that I had the opportunity to work with and get to know during Fall Conference, and even State Conference. Their ability to make students feel at home, help them to learn new materials, and walk away from a conference with new friends, was something truly admirable as a high school student. I knew that when I graduated, I wanted to be able to do those same things for the students that would come after me. Additionally, the joy that comes with helping students succeed is like none other. As an Alumni member, we get to participate in a variety of conferences and events throughout the year, and at each one, I have the opportunity to serve our membership, and the communities that we represent.
